Brush Creek Road follows Brush Creek, also called Rincon Creek. The Scenic Brush Creek neighborhood is located at the lower portion of the creek. Santa Rosa has a designated a 4.3 mile walking and biking trail that follows the creek on both sides.
The area is dominated by mature evergreen and oak trees. For birding, this woodland setting provides homes for many species. Residents enjoy picnicking at the Brush Creek Park with a playground for the children. Children attend Madrone Elementary School, Herbert Slater Middle School and Montgomery High School.
The residents of this affluent neighborhood have the best of both worlds. Set in the hills with the tree-lined streets, residents have the feeling of privacy in a world far away from traffic and crowds when in fact, downtown Santa Rosa is a mere three miles away. One of the most well-known parks in the area is Howarth Park. The dam, built in 1873, was later purchased by Mark L. McDonald who built the McDonald Mansion. This was the mansion used in the 1960 movie Pollyanna. McDonald enlarged the dam naming it after his wife. The community park was built around the Lake Ralphine. Today, traveling the lake is done in paddleboats and canoes. Kids love riding the train that travels through the park and the carousel is a local favorite.
