As a densely populated, medium-sized neighborhood in San Jose, Lynhaven is centrally located near many of its major attractions. With an area of 0.415 square miles, Lynhaven has a population of approximately 3,200 residents. More than half of the homes in Lynhaven are single-family, detached units, ranging in style from ranch to Mediterranean to classic American, with a few other types of houses present in the community as well.
South Winchester Boulevard is the eastern border of Lynhaven. San Tomas Expressway is its western border. Williams Road borders Lynhaven to the south, and Moorpark Avenue borders the community to the north.
Starbird Park is within walking distance of anywhere in Lynhaven. It’s only a half-mile southwest of the community. The 7-acre Starbird Park has horseshoe pits, a softball field, two basketball courts, two playgrounds (one for school-aged kids and another for tots), picnic facilities, and a public restroom.
Lynhaven allows residents easy access to the greater San Jose area through public transportation. Several bus stops line Williams Road and South Winchester Boulevard. The sidewalk-lined streets are pedestrian-friendly, allowing walkers, joggers, and dog walkers to easily get to the bus stops or go through the neighborhood on foot.
The Winchester Mystery House, built by the eccentric Sarah Winchester, remains a popular tourist attraction in San Jose, and it lies just north of the Lynhaven community. Within walking distance, it is known for its great tours of the mansion, which is full of oddities, secret passageways, and curious architectural choices. Visitors to the house even encounter a staircase that requires you to go partly down it before you can go up it.
