Lowlanders is a densely populated community of Sunnyvale in the northwestern San Jose area. With an area of 0.316 square miles, the Lowlanders neighborhood has a population of 3,000 people. It’s bordered by the Central Expressway, North Mathilda Avenue, West Maude Avenue, and North Fair Oaks Avenue.
More than half of the homes in the Lowlanders community are apartment buildings, while about 30 percent of the residential buildings in the neighborhood are single-family, detached units of varying sizes and styles.
The Sunnyvale Heritage Park Museum is only two miles south of the Lowlanders neighborhood. It is a historical museum that’s a replica of the Martin Murphy family home. The Murphys were the founders of Sunnyvale, and their own home was originally designated as a historical landmark before it was torn down for a freeway. The new replica and museum is dedicated to the contributions that the family made to the Sunnyvale community.
Lowlanders is a family-friendly community. There are many popular and high performing schools in proximity to the neighborhood. Bishop Elementary School is within quick walking distance to the northwest of Lowlanders. The King’s Academy and Columbia Middle School are only a half-mile away from the neighborhood. Rainbow Montessori, Saint Martin School, Stratford School, and San Miguel Elementary School are also close to Lowlanders.
Some of the wealthier residents of Lowlanders are members of the exclusive Los Altos Golf and Country Club, which lies just a short drive southwest of the community. This country club is known for its highly rated golf courses, but it also offers several other amenities. Its aquatic center is state-of-the-art. It also offers tennis courts and an extensive workout room. The clubhouse dining rooms are often considered the best part of the country club with chefs that cook the freshest foods that best represent each season.
