The neighborhood borders East 9th Avenue to the north. To the west, El Camino Real travels down to Hobart and then to Alameda De Las Pulgas. The eastern border is South Delaware Street, and the southern border is State Route 92.
This neighborhood borders Central Park, which is a favorite of the residents. The gazebo is the place for weddings, and the kids love the Bianchi mini-train. A playground entertains the children while they’re not riding the train. The tennis courts are lighted, and there is a ball field. Part of Central Park is the Japanese Tea Garden, and it is most lovely when the cherry blossoms are in bloom. Hayward Park is within blocks of downtown San Mateo with unique shopping and dining prospects. Still, for shopping and dining, residents do not need to leave their neighborhood. The San Mateo Commons Shopping Center is in the southeast corner, and the area around Central Park is full of fun places to eat and shop. The Hayward Park neighborhood is complete in itself.
