The city has provided some bike trails and paths to make it easier for the residents to leave their cars at home. Hayward Park also has a Caltrain stop to take residents by train all though the area and to San Francisco.

Hayward Park is within blocks of downtown San Mateo with unique shopping and dining prospects. Still, for shopping and dining, residents do not need to leave their neighborhood. The San Mateo Commons Shopping Center is in the southeast corner, and the area around Central Park is full of fun places to eat and shop. The Hayward Park neighborhood is complete in itself.
