Known as the “Gateway to San Francisco,” the coastal town of Pacifica, Calif., is a popular destination for surfers. The neighborhood of Fairmont, Pacifica, San Mateo County, Calif., is the first neighborhood closest to Pacifica’s northern border.
The Pacific Ocean, Mussel Rock Park, Hickey Boulevard, and Skyline Boulevard loosely border the neighborhood. Although the cost of living in Fairmont is high, the population density is low. Most of its residents are families and homeowners.
Highways near Fairmont include 1, 35, 507, and 280. For major public transportation into the San Francisco Bay Area, residents and tourists can access BART, CalTrain, and SamTrans in Daly City, San Bruno, and Millbrae. Fairmont’s coastal location makes it close to Mussel Rock Park, Milagra Ridge County Park, Linda Mar Beach, Graywhale Cove State Beach, Sharp Park, San Pedro Valley County Park, San Francisco State Fish and Game, Cooper Field, and Pomo Park.

Dogs are not allowed in San Mateo County’s parks. Dogs are allowed on San Mateo County’s beaches, but are required to be on a leash. Mori Point in Sharp Park has an on-leash dog park to prevent the loss of the park’s rare native plants.
Family-friendly attractions close to Fairmont includes the Pacifica Pier, Pacifica Center for the Arts, Pacifica State Park, Pacifica Skate Park, Alcatraz, Palace of Fine Arts, Exploratorium, Fitzgerald Marine Reserve, Golden Gate Bridge, Pier 39, Chinatown, and Fisherman’s Wharf.
The largest shopping center in Pacifica is the Linda Mar Shopping Center.
