East Virginia is a small neighborhood made up of houses in and around East Virginia Street in south central San Jose. As both a commercial and a residential neighborhood, East Virginia truly feels like it is a part of midtown San Jose. As a matter of fact, midtown proper is just north of Interstate 280, less than a quarter mile north of the borders of East Virginia.
Being situated between midtown and south central San Jose gives East Virginia a lot of advantages over other neighborhoods in the area. Kelley Park, Spartan Stadium, and San Jose State University are all less than a mile away, making this neighborhood truly one of the most accessible in the entire city.
Kelley Park is one of the best parks in all of San Jose and features the Happy Hollow Park & Zoo, Japanese Friendship Garden, History Park Museum, Leininger Center, and even a Greek-style amphitheater that can hold 200 people.
The two stadiums within walking distance are also impressive. In addition to its regular duties hosting San Jose State University sporting events of various kinds, Spartan Stadium hosted the 1999 Women’s World Cup. The San Jose Municipal Stadium – or Muni Stadium – hosts the San Jose Giants as well as a number of other events throughout the year.
Between East Virginia’s great location for civic events and its commercial activity, many residents consider the neighborhood the ideal place to live in San Jose.
