The southern border of this neighborhood is South Delaware Street. It is bordered on the east by 10th Avenue, which is also the location of Sunnybrae Elementary School. The western border is East 5th Street. Older children attend Borel Middle School and San Mateo High School.
This neighborhood is a great place to walk, with Central Park only a few blocks away. However, residents may want to drive and park in the underground garage to take advantage of the picnic areas and the playground for the kids. If baseball or tennis is a favorite sport, there are fields and courts. The Japanese Tea Garden has paths to enjoy the spectacular plants and the gazebo is a favorite spot for weddings. The miniature train is the destination of most children who love to ride it through the park. Central Park is also the location for community concerts and events.
The East San Mateo neighborhood is close to downtown San Mateo with many shopping and dining choices. The SamTrans bus system is widely available and stops at the Century 12 Theater downtown and the Hillsdale Shopping Center. Hillsdale has major anchor stores and more than 100 shops and many places for dining.
This charming neighborhood is at the crossroads of three major arterial routes. CalTrain takes residents to San Francisco and all the areas served by BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit). East San Mateo is a neighborhood where many would like to live.
