One of the more interesting places to live in San Jose is the small neighborhood of Cory. This upper-class subdivision has all the amenities you might expect from any well-developed western San Jose neighborhood, but with the added flair of being next door to a number of odd attractions.
The strangest of the attractions in the area is the Winchester Mystery House. Built by an heiress to the Winchester rifle fortune, this mansion regularly offers tours of its mystifying architecture, including doors that open out to nowhere at all, and staircases that spiral right up to the ceiling for no apparent reason. Many residents think the house is haunted.
More traditional attractions throughout the neighborhood include the Valley Fair Shopping Center, a huge commercial storefront area just within walking distance of Cory. Mission City Memorial Park is also a huge draw for Cory residents, and the neighborhood has its own baseball field for the locals.
Next door to Cory on the North is the Santa Clara Catholic Cemetery, which closely fits the traditional design and look of a Catholic cemetery, unlike other cemeteries usually seen in and around San Jose. The larger crypts make this cemetery especially spooky during Halloween.
Cory is situated right at the corner of Interstate 280 and Interstate 880, making it easy for residents of the neighborhood to get anywhere in the greater San Jose area in record time. The Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport is just two minutes away by car, as is access to Cupertino and central San Jose.
The closest hospital in the area is O’Connor Hospital, which has a very good reputation. O’Connor hospital is not quite within the borders of the Cory neighborhood, but it is within an easy quarter-mile’s walking distance from the southeast edge of Cory.
Many of the people of Cory are members of the Pruneridge Golf Club, located just a mile west of the neighborhood at the Pruneridge Farms Golf Course.
