Sunnyvale’s most beautiful avian-themed area is Birdland Neighbors, where all the streets are named after birds that live in California. This upscale neighborhood is just on the border of Sunnyvale and Cupertino, and it is filled with trees and large residential homes.
Although no businesses exist within the neighborhood limits, the area is surrounded by restaurants and stores of the highest quality. Cupertino Village, Lawrence Station, and Homestead shopping centers are actually within walking distance, while Cupertino Square is just over a mile away by car.
A large park lies in the center of the neighborhood. As a cute nod to the fact that birds evolved from dinosaurs, Raynor Park is entirely dinosaur themed, with lots of space available for all kinds of park-related activities, including a skating rink. The entire seven-acre park was recently remodeled, so children’s play areas, in many sections of the park, are brand new. There’s a separate partition for younger children’s play, and much of the park is shaded by large trees.
The nearest hospital is actually within walking distance, just outside the neighborhood borders. Kaiser Santa Clara Medical Center has a very good reputation in the community and is especially appreciated by those who live in Birdland Neighbors, though there are some complaints about prices if you don’t have insurance.
For those who like to travel widely throughout the greater area, easy access to Interstate 280 is particularly important. At less than a mile from the center of the neighborhood, residents of the area are able to go just about anywhere in Santa Clara County without too many problems.
There are a number of schools to choose from in the area, some of which are actually within the borders of Birdland Neighbors. Appleseed Montessori School is the local alternative school, espousing the hands-off Montessori method of teaching, while Sunnyvale Parent and My Dream Academy are more traditional schools.
