Located on the northern side of the City of Napa, the neighborhood of Beard is one of the most affordable in a very expensive area. As a result, housing in the neighborhood is highly desirable. Although there are many housing options, the Beard neighborhood is largely made up of condominiums and single-family homes.
Perhaps the most prominent feature of the Beard neighborhood is the area’s premier medical facility, the Queen of the Valley Medical Center, part of the St. Joseph Health System. For more than 50 years the medical center has been serving the community through its specializations in maternity and child care as well as serving as a regional center for cancer and cardiac care. Queen of the Valley offers extensive community outreach, particularly children’s programs and health clinics.
Residents of the Beard neighborhood have an abundance of nearby shopping opportunities including the Grapeyard Shopping Center, Silverado Plaza, and Northwood Shopping Center.
Like most Napa residents, the community of Beard enjoys easy access to any number of wineries. Within its zip code alone, there are no less than 20 wineries, including Cakebread Cellars, Beaulieu Vineyards, and Quail Ridge Winery. Downtown Napa, of course, offers plenty of venues selling local wine, including Oxbow Public Market, which also features food markets and restaurants.
Recreationally, Beard families enjoy access to many city parks. Garfield Little League Park offers diamonds for baseball and softball, a concession stand (open during games), and a playground. Other local parks include Fuller, a favorite spot for picnics and birthday celebrations, and Alston, a favorite for residents who love to hike. Alston Park offers expansive Napa Valley views and beautiful plum trees as well as a dog park.
