The Ashford Point neighborhood of Orangevale, California was established in 1844. In 1930, frost destroyed most of the orange groves, but the town continued to prosper. The neighborhood is located along Pecan Avenue, and is bordered to the north and south by the Orangevale Community Park and Pecan Park.
Today, Ashford Point has the suburban appeal of a family-friendly neighborhood, but it continues to have a small town feel. It is an upper-class neighborhood whose housing prices are equal to the Sacramento Metropolitan Area. The Orangevale Community Park is one of the largest parks in the neighborhood. The park has programs for children to senior citizens. Trails are used for walking, biking and horseback riding. Orangevale is a horse-friendly community where some areas are zoned for horses and agriculture.
Ashford Point is a residential neighborhood where the average resident is 37 years old. Families occupy an established neighborhood of houses, condominiums, townhouses, apartments and mobile homes. Homes are mostly owner-occupied with three or more bedrooms to accommodate growing families.
The neighborhood is close to highways 50 and 80. Ashford Point is 25 miles from Downtown Sacramento. Public transportation to Sacramento is limited. Sacramento Regional Transit provides bus service to the community, and the nearest light rail station is in Folsom.
Ashford Point is close to the tourist destinations of Downtown Sacramento and Old Sacramento, but it is much closer to the restaurants, bars, events, cultural activities and major shopping offered by historic Folsom. Folsom is also the site of the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area. The 18,000-acre recreational area has outdoor activities that include fishing, boating, hiking and horseback riding. Tours of Folsom Dam and the Folsom Powerhouse are available. The recreation area is an extension of the American River Parkway, which begins directly north of Old Sacramento.
