The Amtrak Station has a long and distinguished history, and it is the oldest Amtrak Station in California. It was opened originally in July of 1918 to replace the wooden station that burned down a couple of years before. In the early 1990s, the Santa Fe Rail Company sold the Amtrak Station to the San Bernardino Associated Governments (SANBAG). Shortly thereafter, renovations took place removing asbestos, replacing heating systems and removing lead-based paint. When renovations were taking place, workers were surprised to find several hundred pounds of honey in the walls left by bees, as well as pigeons and entire families of cats. As much as possible, the attempt was to restore original floors, walls, and doors. While the Amtrak station does not currently house any type of amenities, they are working on including snack shops, as well as a museum in the station lobby.
