Chapman Neighborhood in Pasadena, CA

East Pasadena Neighborhood

Residents describe the neighborhood of East Pasadena as one of the area’s “best kept secrets” for its affordable housing and eclectic lifestyle. With a decidedly urban vibe, the neighborhood is the combination of two areas.

The first, or main, section is bordered by the Pasadena city limits to the north, California Boulevard to the south, the Arcadia city limits to the east, and Gabriel Boulevard to the west. The second and much smaller portion of East Pasadena is bordered by Del Mar Boulevard to the north, San Marino city limits to the south, San Gabriel Boulevard to the east, and Berkeley Avenue to the west.

East Pasadena residents are served by the Los Angeles Gold Line light rail as well as local bus service via the Pasadena Area Rapid Transit System. There are four freeways that connect the area to greater Los Angeles for easy commuting. Bob Hope Airport serves as the regional hub, while Long Beach and LAX are within easy driving distance.

The neighborhood of East Pasadena is a mix of old and new structures with a strong commercial presence. Old Pasadena, a nearby 20-block area, offers shopping and dining options as well as pubs and comedy venues. Residents also frequent Paseo Colorado, a three-block outdoor shopping mecca that includes a movie theater and restaurants.

Educational institutions abound in this area, including Caltech, Fuller Theological Seminary, Pacific Oaks College, Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts, the Los Angeles Music Academy College of Music, Art Center College of Design, and Pasadena City College.

Of course, the Rose Bowl Game and Tournament of Roses parade are the most famous events held each year. The area is also known as an important hub for arts and culture in the San Gabriel Valley.
