The aptly named Northwest community is a premier Orange County neighborhood in Santa Ana. Conveniently located next to major freeways for easy commuting to Los Angeles and serviced several times daily by Amtrak, the community has much to offer residents.
Homes in Northwest are usually characterized by a Mediterranean styling and feel, with landscaping a highlight and the neighborhood’s profusion of fruit trees adding to its splendor. The area has an abundance of parks including Camino Real, Twin Lakes Recreation Park, and Santiago Park. The outstanding Fisher Park is also located in Northwest Santa Ana, with cabins and picnic areas.
Northwest’s access to Santa Ana College is a gateway to professional development and career training for adult residents. Education is emphasized at all age levels, and the Santa Ana School District provides an online report card making itself accountable to local parents.
Neighborhood shopping is a strong suit in Northwest, with Main Place Mall the closest to both area residents and Disneyland crowds. With more than 200 stores and restaurants, this major attraction is supplemented by additional shopping and dining areas across the street. At the opposite end of the city, yet still within an easy drive, is the well known South Coast Plaza.
Cultural amenities in the city include the Bowers Museum, with its Mission-Revival architecture and collection of ethnographic materials from around the world. The Bowers is also well known for its Kidseum, offering art and cultural experiences for children, while housed in its own building on the Bowers campus.
Children and families will also enjoy the Discovery Science Center in downtown Santa Ana and the Santa Ana Zoo, which is particularly famous for its monkey section. Northeast of the city of Santa Ana lie Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm, world-class amusement parks.
