Heninger Park is a neighborhood in Santa Ana California. The west border is South Flower Street, the east border is South Main Street, the northern border is West First Street and the south is West McFadden Avenue. Santa Ana is in Orange County. Heninger Park has been designated a historic district and is known as Santa Ana’s “Bungalow Neighborhood” due to the number of craftsman bungalows located within the neighborhood. While South Main Street is part of the neighborhood, it is not part of the historic district.
The Heninger Park neighborhood is named after the Heninger family who lived in the neighborhood and were instrumental in developing this area of south Santa Ana. They were the driving force behind the beautiful and quality homes that were built in the area. Thirty years ago residents got together to preserve this historic neighborhood. The loss of many historic homes and their replacement with apartment complexes activated the people into saving this irreplaceable part of Santa Ana history.
Flower Street Park is located in the northwest corner of the neighborhood, along with the Neal Machander Tennis Center. Santa Anna High School is also located in the Heninger Park Neighborhood. It has a huge campus with lots of open sports fields, which is a surprise in the middle of the city. It is the oldest high school in Orange County.
While the neighborhood is historic and residential, there are plenty of small local business, several churches and a 7-Eleven, a Dominos Pizza and a Subway sandwich shop.
There are sidewalks, tall palm trees and lots of beautiful bungalow style homes in the neighborhood. Most of the homes were built in the early 20th century. Some homes are very small with 2 bedrooms and have as little as 700 square feet in size; others are multi-family.
