Goldenwest is a neighborhood in Huntington Beach, which is located in Orange County. The neighborhood is northwest of the center of Huntington Beach. Its borders are Warner Avenue on the south, Goldenwest Street on the west, Gothard Street on the east, and McFadden Avenue on the north.
One of the main features of the Goldenwest community is Golden West College. It has a 122-acre campus that services more than 14,000 students who attend the two-year college. Golden West College is part of the Coastal Community College District.
Murdy Park is a 15-acre park located in Goldenwest. The park was donated to the city of Huntington Beach by John Murdy in 1962. It is home to the first skate park in Orange County. It has a baseball field, tennis courts, basketball courts, and plenty of open space with trees for picnicking. There are also cement walkways that offer a great place to ride a bike, jog, or walk. Dogs on leashes are allowed in Murdy Park. There is a play area with a variety of equipment perfect for younger children. The park is a favorite of community members of all ages.
There are commercial areas on the borders of the neighborhood. An Alfred Angelo Bridal Shop, a Boston Market, and a CVS Pharmacy are on Warner Avenue. Gothard Street is home only to commercial enterprises such as restaurants, offices, and small strip malls. Goldenwest Street has a variety of small local businesses.
The residential areas of the neighborhood are very attractive, with trees. The streets are wide and have sidewalks. Most of the houses have just a single story. Most of the homes have small front yards, yet there is a definite neighborhood feel to the area. The houses are quite close together, not quite touching.
