Westside Neighborhood in Los Angeles, CA

West LA Neighborhood

With its quiet, tree-lined streets and luxury homes, West Los Angeles offers residents a tranquil escape from the busy Los Angeles lifestyle. Those living in this affluent neighborhood enjoy proximity to surrounding commercial hubs. There are even several high-rise office buildings located within the community along Olympic, Santa Monica, and Wilshire Boulevards. Looking at the bustling community today, it’s hard to imagine that in the early 20th century, this area constituted nothing more than bean and wheat fields.

Home designs in West LA are a mix of old and new. Over the last 20 years, the community has accommodated a trend to greater density, replacing some single-family homes with apartment buildings, town-homes and condominiums. You’ll find everything from a 1981 two-story town-home, to a wide variety of condominiums and town-home penthouses built in the 2000s, to Mediterranean and Traditional-style homes constructed in the 1920s and 1930s.

West LA encompasses area code 90025. The community is bounded by Wilshire Boulevard to the north, Venice Boulevard and the community of Little Ethiopia to the east, the Santa Monica Freeway to the south, and Pacific Coast Highway 1 to the west. The historic Route 66 cuts through the center of the neighborhood. The area is primarily residential, but there are a wide variety of commercial businesses sprinkled throughout the community, including restaurants, shops, and service establishments.

Of the many appealing aspects of Wes LA is the community’s close proximity to the Santa Monica State Beach. This 2-mile stretch along the water edge includes areas for picnicking, and playing volleyball and basketball. To the north outside of the community is the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. The rugged coastline of this national park contains sandy beaches and rocky shores, as well as native chaparral. Visitors enjoy hiking, camping, mountain biking, and swimming.
