West Torrance’s proximity to the coast makes it an ideal place to live. Temperatures are usually mild, the neighborhood offers easy access to Redondo Beach, King Harbor, and King Harbor Pier via Torrance Boulevard.
This large section of the city also lies close to the western entrance to Del Amo Fashion Center, and two small shopping centers sit on the corner of Torrance Boulevard and Hawthorne Boulevard.
West Torrance has several parks. Paradise Park near Anza Elementary School is the largest. Victor Park off of Victor Street offers both a park and a branch of the Torrance Public Library.
West Torrance is one of four districts within Torrance. Others districts include South Torrance, North Torrance, and Central Torrance. West Torrance’s traditional borders are Sepulveda Boulevard to the south, Hawthorne Boulevard to the east, the Redondo Beach border along Prospect Avenue to the west, and 190th Street to the north.
The district has residential communities, business sectors, and an industrial zone. The small industrial zone is buried deep into a residential area west of Hawthorne Boulevard. One can easily pass by it without noticing it.
The Little Company of Mary on Torrance Boulevard is hard to miss. This hospital is one of two in the city that made U.S. News and Report’s “Top Hospitals in the Country” list.
West Torrance has two high schools less than a mile from each other. One is West Torrance High School on Victor Street. The other is the private Bishop Montgomery off of Torrance Boulevard. The two schools have been recognized for their academic standards and are often chosen by parents outside the district as schools of choices for their children.
