Tropico is a tree-lined residential and business community of Glendale, California. With an area of 0.382 square miles, it houses approximately 3,000 residents. It is bordered by South Glendale Avenue, East Chevy Chase Drive, and San Fernando Road.
One of the most intriguing landmarks of the area is Forest Lawn Memorial Park, a privately owned memorial park that is less than a half-mile southeast of Tropico. It is within easy walking distance, and some walkers respectfully walk along the carefully manicured grounds. It is the final resting place of many celebrities, including Michael Jackson, (who lies in the Great Mausoleum,) Nat King Cole, Lucille Ball, and Clark Gable. The cemetery has over 1,500 statues, and over 250,000 people are buried within this massive memorial park.
Wilson Municipal Golf Course is to the northwest of the Tropico community. It is a tree-lined, 6,947-yard golf course that is named after President Woodrow Wilson. It is a par-72, 18-hole course, and lessons are available for all golf skill levels.
The massive, 4,210-acre Griffith Park is just a mile west of Tropico. It is the second-largest city park in the entire state. It is a landmark of Los Angeles and contains many local attractions that attract visitors from all over the country. It has a bike trail, nature trails, open parkland, the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens, Griffith Observatory, Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round, and the Griffith Park Train Rides.
The Tropico neighborhood is family friendly, attracting lots of young families with its easy access to natural and cultural attractions. It is served by the Glendale Unified School District. The Holy Trinity Elementary School is an award-winning elementary school that is only a half-mile southwest of Tropico, while the American International Music School is less than a half-mile northeast of the community.
