Bordered on the north by West Sepulveda Boulevard, the Palo del Amo neighborhood in Torrance, California, is a mix of magnificent million dollar homes, very affordable mobile homes, and everything in between. While this seems to be a contradiction, it works well for this neighborhood. The western border is Crenshaw Boulevard, and it is bordered on the east by Fulmar Avenue. The southern border is 240th Street but dips down to 246th Street east of Lomita Park.
Lomita Park is a well-maintained facility with a ball field with bleachers and a lighted soccer field. The two tennis courts are lighted and the volleyball court is sand. The gym has basketball courts and the community building is available for group activities. Although there are not many trees, there are nice picnic areas with barbecues, and restroom facilities are available. There is a playground for the kids. Sur la Brea Park is also located in this neighborhood. The community center has a kitchen for events. The park has a softball diamond, basketball court, and tennis courts. There is a picnic area with barbecues, equipment for children’s play, and a fitness track.
The southwest corner of this neighborhood is adjacent to the Crossroads Shopping Center with a Sam’s Club and a Costco, as well as several familiar restaurants. Below the Shopping Center is Zamperini Field, the former Torrance Municipal Airport. This busy municipal airport is three miles southwest of downtown Torrance.
The Southeast Torrance neighborhood is seven miles southeast of Torrance Beach and access to all the beach cities. Children attending Wood Elementary School, John Adams Elementary School, J.H. Hull Middle School, or Nathaniel Narbonne High School can head to the beach for after-school fun.
