Las Virgenes Park is on the western end of Malibu Canyon, north of Highway 101 and the City of Calabasas. The neighborhood is surrounded by the Upper Virgenes Canyon Open Space preserve on the western and northern edges. It is this seclusion that attracts many of Hollywood’s famous, and perhaps in some cases infamous, personalities wanting to escape the madcap mania that so often defines Los Angeles. The one way in via Las Virgenes Road and the twisty, circular local roadways keep traffic to a minimum.
This neighborhood is less than two miles north of Bark Park, an off-leash dog park complete with special doggie drinking fountains and separate children’s play area. Pets may also be taken into the canyon open space but this is a wilderness area with a chance of running into area wildlife. Las Virgenes Park is also close to The Commons at Calabasas, a shopping mall that somehow looks more like a fantasy resort than someplace to grab a Starbucks Coffee or get prescriptions filled at a Rite Aid pharmacy.
Homes in Las Virgenes Park are a mixture of single-family structures, some very large and hidden away on impressively large, tree-shaded lots, upscale apartments, and townhomes. The only public school in the immediate area is Lupin Hill Elementary. Calabasas High and Arthur E Wright Middle School are to the south. Nearby houses of worship include the Congregation Or Ami, San Fernando Valley Interfaith, and the Church in the Canyon. Following Las Virgenes Road south leads to the Pacific Coast Highway and the Pacific Ocean.
