Greenbriar is a rather large Glendale community that is just southwest of the massive Angeles National Forest; this area attracts hikers from all over. Many people strive to make it to the top of the 9,400-foot peak of Mount Baden-Powell.
Verdugo Park, a massive, 36.50-acre park, is to the east of Greenbriar. It offers a softball/baseball field, a playground for children, picnic tables, a horseshoe court, and a basketball court. It also houses the popular Verdugo Skate Park.
In addition to its parks, Greenbriar is a great community for those who love the outdoors. The Diederich Street Reservoir is at the far southwestern part of the community. There are several strong hiking trails near it, including Puente Hills Skyline Trail, the Whittier Greenway Trail, and the Hacienda Hills Trail.
Greenbriar is also a great neighborhood for families. The Glendale Unified School District serves many of the younger residents of the community, and there are also quality private schools in the neighborhood. The Glendale Adventist Elementary School is a high-ranking school that is only a mile southeast of Greenbriar. The Salem Lutheran School and Incarnation Parish School are great parochial schools nearby. Academically acclaimed public schools in the area include Verdugo Woodlands and Hoover High School.
Many of the wealthier residents of Greenbriar belong to the Oakmont Country Club, which is only a mile and a half north of the neighborhood. It is a family-oriented country club, making it perfect for some of the families of Greenbriar. It has a clubhouse and sprawling golf courses. It has a dress code that requires being reasonably fashionable, according to its web site.
