Santa Rita Villas is a neighborhood in Green Valley, Arizona, south of Tucson. The neighborhood is bordered on the west by South La Canada Drive, and on the south by West Harley Drive. South Dewsbury Avenue is the eastern border. The area is easily accessed from Interstate 19 and the South Nogales Highway. While many of the neighborhoods in Green Valley are geared for age 55 and older, Santa Rita Villas is a family neighborhood with its own swimming pool. Children can attend the Continental School District. Many go on to the University of Arizona in downtown Tucson, just one-half hour away.
The community lies near the Santa Rita Mountains in the Santa Cruz Valley. With an elevation of almost 3,000 above sea level, the neighborhood is cooler than Tucson. Residents enjoy golf, birdwatching, and biking along the trails. Many of the roads are also bike-friendly, with bike paths along the sides. Shops and malls line the main arterial streets.
Santa Rita Villas is near the San Xavier del Bac Mission. This mission was founded in 1692 by Father Eusebio Kino, and is now a National Historic Landmark. It was a Franciscan mission and is filled with murals and statuary. It is open to the public and admission is free. There is a gift shop at the museum, which features baskets made by the Tohono O’odham tribe. Santa Rita Villas is located one-half hour south of Tucson International Airport.
