Sabino Ridge is an exclusive community on the northeast side of Tucson, which is made up mainly of large homes of Spanish styling. The sand-colored adobe facades and red-tiled roofs of the homes mix in well with the desert scenery, which consists of Saguaro, barrel, and prickly pear cactus, and succulents such as agave and aloe vera. Palo verde and ironwood trees provide some shade to adobe and cement block patios, all of which offer protection from desert winds, as well as indigenous animals, such as javenlinas and rattlesnakes.

The neighborhood is located north of East Snyder Road and just southeast of Sabino Canyon. East Snyder Road leads to East Catalina Highway to the east, which turns into Mount Lemmon Highway, a road that leads up to the pinnacle (Mount Lemmon) of the Santa Catalina Mountains on the north.

Because of their location, residents have myriad activities from which to choose, as the temperature can vary as much as 20 degrees between the desert elevation of the community and the higher altitude of the mountains. As a result, locals can play a game of tennis on a winter’s day in January or ski on Mount Lemmon. Alternatively, they can also choose to hike in the Catalinas in the summer months, when the mercury in Tucson can reach well over the 100-degree mark.

The neighborhood is served by three community schools, Fruchthendler Elementary School, Esperero Canyon Middle School, and Tucson Accelerated High School. Park Mall, which is located southwest of the community, is home to anchors Macy’s, Dillard’s, and Sears, as well as more than 150 smaller specialty retailers and shops.
