Mission San Xavier del Bac known as the “White Dove of the Desert” is 23 minutes from Rancho Valencia. Father Eusebio Kino established the mission in 1692 to bring the Catholic faith to Indians living in the area. It is the oldest intact European structure in Arizona. The faithful may attend mass and the public can visit the sanctuary and museum on the grounds.
Nearby is Thomas Jay Regional Park. The park has a baseball field, two basketball courts, and a playground. There is a gazebo and picnic shelters. There are also plenty of trails in the desert surrounding Rancho Valencia. Residents can walk dogs, ride dirt bikes and go-karts, and explore nature and wildlife. The Santa Rita Mountains provide scenic views and residents have clear view of the spectacular desert sunsets.
Rancho Valencia is a quiet neighborhood. Although the community is out of the Tucson metro area, it is only twenty minutes from Downtown Tucson and the University of Arizona. Rancho Valencia is ten minutes from Tucson International Airport.
