Outer Catalina Foothills Neighborhood in Tucson, AZ

Outer Catalina Foothills Neighborhood

You’ll discover the rugged, copper peaks of the Catalina Foothills in northern Tucson. The soaring vistas come at a price – this CDP is one of Arizona’s most affluent communities, with the nation’s 14th highest income. But while it may by one of Tucson’s most expensive areas, you might decide it’s worth it – in addition to the sweeping mountain views, this area is home to La Encantada, Tucson’s largest upscale shopping mall.

Reid Park Zoo is a short distance from the Catalina Foothills. The zoo is famous for its “Zoo Lights” event during the month of December, where trees are decorated with holiday lights in a variety of fun designs. For a completely different experience, nearby Loews Ventana Canyon Resort offers a full-service spa, two swimming pools, and lighted tennis courts. Guests can hike, rent bicycles, or enjoy the Window Walk Nature Trail.

Choosing an apartment in the Catalina Foothills will surround you with amazing scenery and tranquility. When you want the big city environment, Downtown Tucson is about seven miles south. The University of Arizona is just about five miles away, making the Catalina Foothills an ideal choice for those working in the city or at the university.

With so much natural beauty courtesy of the Santa Catalina Mountains, the area is dotted with fantastic parks and scenic overlooks. General Hitchcock Highway passes several picnic areas, scenic outlooks, and campgrounds. The mountains are full of trails and perfect for amateur explorers. Rillito River Park flanks the Rillito River, and for amazing hiking, climbing, horseback riding, picnicking, fishing, bicycling, and backcountry camping, the Santa Catalina Natural Area and Coronado National Forest are in your backyard.

And while Tucson is famous for its desert landscape of cacti and sand dunes, the Santa Catalina Ranger District is the nation’s southernmost ski area – near Mt. Lemmon’s 9,154-foot summit. The Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley offers ski runs typically open from mid-December to early April – meaning you could be swimming and enjoying the sunny weather in Tucson in the morning and snow skiing in the afternoon.

Other recreation can be found to the south at Tucson Country Club. The club is home to a large golf course and healthy tennis program that offers tennis clinics, league play, and tournaments. There is also a lap swimming pool, perfect for those looking for water exercise and swimming. The Morris K Udall Park provides many amenities for area families, especially for children participating in youth baseball, soccer, and football leagues.
