Park Place Apartments for Rent

Park Place is a Mobile, Alabama, neighborhood. The area encompasses approximately 1.36 square miles, and has a population of more than 3,650 people. The borders of this neighborhood create a unique outline that looks something like a saddle.

The easternmost point of Park Place includes half of the hospital complex at Spring Hill Avenue. The westernmost point reaches to North Sage Avenue. The main roads of Spring Hill Avenue and Old Shell Road span the entirety of this neighborhood.

Old Shell Road bears an interesting history. This area has been popular with wealthy summer residents from the beginning of its history, in the early 1800s. By the mid 1800s, these part-time residents financed the surfacing of this road, which had to be done four times a year. The road was surfaced with shells. In time, a second Shell Road was built, thus this one became the Old Shell Road.

Now, most of this neighborhood is residential, with representations of the early architecture maintaining a large presence. One outstanding example of this is the Bragg-Mitchell Mansion. This 13,000 square foot, Greek Revival-style mansion was built in 1855. The last family to live in it, the Mitchells, generously donated it to the Explore Center. It has since had $3 million in renovations, and today serves as a community venue for weddings, business meetings, and similar events. Tours of this historic mansion are also offered.

The Mobile Infirmary Medical Center and the Infirmary Health System also reside in Park Place. This hospital is renowned for some of its programs, as well as for its technology. 650 physicians are staffed here, with more than 2,500 employees.
