Founded in 1830, this college is the oldest institution of higher learning in the state, as well as the oldest Catholic college in the southeast. Notable graduates of Spring Hill College include alumni such as Miller Reese Hutchinson, chief engineer for Thomas Edison, and chess legend Bobby Fisher. The campus includes Spring Hill Golf Course. This 18-hole regulation course was built in 1928 and was designed by Earl Stone and Bill Burgen.

Near the college is Saint Paul’s Episcopal School. This is a college-preparatory school for around 1,500 kindergarten through 12th-grade students. Spring Hill Shopping Center is located across County Road 70 from these schools.

The College Park neighborhood is part of a larger area known as Spring Hill. This area in its entirety is considered to be one of the most prestigious communities in the Mobile area. This dates back to the early 1800s, when the affluent would come from the city to the higher elevations to find relief from the heat, as well as from the mosquitoes. The area is lush and green.
