Contributing to the quality of life for Iredell residents are the numerous recreational opportunities in the Madison-Huntsville area. Madison alone maintains two large parks. Dublin Memorial Park covers sixty acres. It provides an indoor pool, a 9-hole disc golf course, a diving well, soccer fields, athletic courts, and walking trails. Palmer Park provides abundant youth facilities, with 13 baseball fields, 2 football fields, as well as fields for youth softball and soccer.
Nearby Madison Golf Center provides a convenient facility for golf practice, with a driving range, full instruction center, and practice putting greens. A half-dozen or more public and private courses are within a short drive. Nearby state parks also offer great play.
Other favorite recreational sites include three aquatic centers: Brahan Spring Natatorium, Jim Williams Aquatic Center, and Dr. Richard Showers, Sr. Aquatic Center. Favorite Madison hiking trails are Rainbow Mountain Preserve and Indian Creek Greenway. A bit farther away, Hays Nature Preserve and Goldsmith Schiffman Wildlife Sanctuary offer 10 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding.
A great historic district, Twickenham, offers an opportunity to study antebellum architecture, including the state’s oldest house, Weeden House, dating to 1819. The Depot Museum is another favorite.
New and upscale Bridge Street Town Center is an outdoor shopping and entertainment area.
