Wylam Apartments for Rent
An eclectic mix of older and newer homes with sidewalks and immaculate front-yard landscaping describes the Wylam neighborhood. Rental houses are available, with apartments nearby. An elementary school is within walking distance, and a branch of the Birmingham Public Library serves the community with programs for all ages. It also provides a number of outreach programs to residents of Jefferson County.
Wylam Residents and visitors are close to restaurants and shopping. Supermarkets, fast-food restaurants, and small retail establishments are in the neighborhood, but larger, nationally known stores are found in nearby Ensley.
A quick getaway from suburban living is only miles away from Wylam. The Moss Rock Preserve is nearby for hiking, nature walks, and photographic opportunities. The 250-acre nature preserve has rock outcroppings, waterfalls, and rare species of plants in a natural setting.
The neighborhood is close to the cultural events in Birmingham. As Northern Alabama’s only professional, regional company, Opera Birmingham was founded in 1955. World-class operatic productions and concerts are performed by Opera Birmingham and the Opera Birmingham Chorus at the Wright Center of Samford University. Through its Educational Tour, Opera Birmingham introduces local school children to the opera with one-act productions of Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel, and The Three Little Pigs. More than 30 Birmingham schools have benefited from the Educational Tour.
The Alabama Ballet began in 1981 and is known as an outstanding ballet company in the United States and abroad. The company has 22 principal dancers and 13 apprentices. The New York Times in a 2006 article referred to this group as first-class. The Alys Robinson Stephens Performing Arts Center is home to the Alabama Ballet.
